I’ve spent the last 25 years sharing the same blood supply as my couch.
Got hooked on Alpine skiing set a personal goal to be a full cert ski instructor; started taking ski lesson and wanting to get better and better as a skier and coach. Every instructor/coach I’ve skied with has told me the same thing: “you have a weak core, lack mobility and strength. You’ll never reach your goal!”
Not wanting to fail I strolled into BBCF introduced myself to Alena told her my goals; I’m only in my third month (wish I started sooner) but the benefits are paying off HUGE on the slopes. Other benefits that I’ve noticed are: No more back pain, better mood, sleep, and overall awareness.

Thank you Alena and BBCF

S: I really like the “Fran” workout. J

Exercise has always played a major role in our lives, but the changes that we have experienced doing crossfit  coupled with changing our eating habits  have  definitely set it apart from anything else we’ve ever done.  We’ve both lost weight, especially Dave and   we’re  stronger , faster,   have more energy,   and sleep more soundly.  But it’s the mental tenacity—the realization that we are far more capable of doing things than we realize;  that has made the biggest difference for us.  It’s helped us take that philosophy out of the gym and apply it to life. Our bodies are an amazing gift and taking care of them positively affects every aspect  of our lives. It’s the whole package; what we eat, how we exercise, what we focus on, all those things have helped us  “do life better.”  You see, we don’t live to do crossfit, we do crossfit to live.

I used to be a competitive gymnast, so I was used to workouts that worked your entire body. Later, I was in a car accident that left me unable to compete in athletics at the level that I once was. Ten years went by, and I began to develop chronic knee and back pain from the accident, as well as a slower, less active lifestyle.

Throughout college, I tried any and all athletic/training courses: kickboxing, swimming, running, spinning, yoga, pilates - you name it; I took it. I was trying to get back into shape, and lose weight, but I never really found something that I could do that worked my entire body.

After hearing about Crossfit, my scientist’s-mind kicked-in, and I wanted to take measurements of my body to get some baseline data, so that I could really determine the effectiveness of crossfit. I was desperate, and a bit skeptical. I was amazed to not only see results on my body, especially in those “trouble spots”, but also an increase in energy level, and mental alertness. Also, I gained insight into healthy diet choices, and began to experience some unexpected results: my knees don’t hurt (I can actually run again), my back doesn’t hurt from the car accident all the time like it did before, I have less frequent headaches, and I am setting physical goals for myself that I never would have imagined I would be able to contemplate. I have actually registered for the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, and am also riding 340 miles on my bike for the Nor-Cal AIDS Ride.

Battleborn Crossfit has amazing trainers. The other members are non-intimidating, every-day people. They’re not beef-heads, and they offer a lot of encouragement for me to get out of bed every day and push my hardest. I sincerely want to say thank you to Alena, and everyone at Battleborn Crossfit for giving me my life back. THANK YOU!

I have been working out at BBCF for about 7 months and love it. Before coming to BBCF I spent many days and nights working out at “Globo Gym” sculpting my guns. I thought of myself as pretty tough because I could spend 2 hours in the gym looking at myself in the mirror and flexing, so I confidently strolled into BBCF knowing I could handle anything the instructors told me to do. Boy was I delusional! Quickly it became apparent that I had a lot of room for improvement in my fitness, and within a couple of months I was becoming a much more complete and well rounded strength and endurance athlete. My strength, quickness, and endurance have all improved since starting at BBCF. The workouts at the gym are programmed to eliminate weakness in all areas of fitness, which includes building a strength base so that I can still get my bench press and squat fix. What I like the most is that the workouts are constantly evolving and focus on functional fitness. The people there are great; they push you because they know it will pay off for you in the end. I really look forward to going to work out at BBCF because I know that it generates results!

I first walked into BBCF Dec 2009 and looked around and wondered “what am I doing here”.  This looks like a place for big bulky dudes who buff up and sweat all over the mats.  During my first week it was like they were speaking another language to me.  Push press, SDHP, clean & jerks, snatch (really).  I was wondering if I could do any of this.  Surprisingly as the weeks progressed I found that I couldn’t wait to get there.  I have noticed a big difference in the way I look and they way my body feels under my clothes.  I can feel the muscle mass when I cross my arms or put my hands on my hips.  I know things are getting tighter and my core is becoming more solid.  It’s been just a little over a year since I started and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The coaches are great and they are always there with advice so we can correct our form and they are always encouraging us to push ourselves beyond what our minds tell us we can do.  Thank you some much for all that you do.

I like crossfit because of the high intensity work outs.  It doesn't matter if it's a 5 min WOD or a 50 min WOD, I always feel like I got a great workout.  The family atmosphere at BBCF is amazing!  I have built great friendships with the BBCF members over the past couple of years.  I also love the friendly competition during WODs.  It gives me the extra push I need to get a great work out in, and be better prepared for the physical demands of firefighting.

I have tried every type of exercise and workout possible from working out in the gym, bootcamps, personal trainers, running marathons, spinning, pilates, you name it, I have tried it, and nothing has challenged me like crossift, and I have never seen results like I have seen since joining BBCF.  The workouts are different everyday, so I am never bored, and I always want to come back!  The coaches help me to be faster and stronger, and the encouragement keeps me motivated.  I love this place!!!
